Over to Rock of Dunamase

Our plan was originally to go to Polebeg Lighthouse but it was getting late in the day and we wanted to have some time in the Cork area. We’ll be putting that on our bucket list for our next trip. Yes we’re already planning it. I think we’ll be spending more time in Cork the next trip. We were already planning to stop and Rock of Cashel, which is one of my favorite places to photograph. Another good stop in that area is Cahir, which has a cute town and river going right by the castle. We did that our last trip and at some point I’ll do a post on that.

If you like ruins and castles make sure you look for brown signs. Those indicate places you want to stop. These places fall into one of three categories: no admission, private, or OPW run. You can use the heritage pass at the OPW sites. We saw a sign for Rock of Dunamase off the M7 and we decided to stop. It wasn’t smooth sailing finding it because it has a neighborhood around it with very narrow roads. We ended up taking a wrong turn and ended up at a farmer’s house. It is an open site on the top of a hill so you can take as much time as you like there

The ruins are beautiful and just a short walk up the hill. The church is at the bottom and is also quite beautiful. The surrounding views are absolutely stunning.
