A Snapshot of Norwegian Escape

This blog post will be mostly about the ship. We were on the Norwegian Escape for its inaugural cruise. We were sort of working since we’re attending our national conference. There were around 800 travel agents onboard for that cruise as well as about 3000 other people.

The Escape is a beautiful ship with just about anything you could want. For those that have sailed Norwegian before, the line is making some changes. There is more emphasis on food and an attempt to make the line feel more like the luxury line, Oceana. This resonates with some travelers and misses with others. The line is still concentrating on delivering a good experience.

We tried the water slides and they were a whole lot of fun. One of them extends over the water which is a different experience.  In that same area they have a pool, hot tubs, and plenty of loungers.

Norwegian gave us exclusive access for a few hours in exchange for a donation to Make A Wish.  There’s a zip line that extends over the water and you can walk the plank.  It’s a 3 story ropes course that has cargo nets and other obstacles you can go through.  That is clearly not me.  I haven’t downloaded our pictures yet.  I’m pretty sure I will look a bit more windblown than that.  It was the evening so it was dark and we had a good bit of wind blowing across the deck.  The plank was interesting because the ship was rocking pretty good and it was still dark.

The ship has a pretty well appointed gym with the best equipment I’ve seen on a cruise ship.  The machines had video screens and you could work out to TV shows or scenes programed in the machines.  You pass through the gym to get to the spa.  We spent quite a lot of time in the Mandara Spa. 930_50-50_spa_thermalsuite_010715We get a spa pass each time. It is well worth the money. It features a thermal suite as well as full spa services. It is adult only and you can stay all day if you like.  They have heated loungers, a rain shower, snow room, sauna, sanarium, steam room, thermal pool, hot tub, and regular loungers.  We tried them all and throughly relaxed.

We took in a comedy show while we were underway.  It was in Headliners Comedy Club and I actually had a good time.  I’m not one for comedy usually since I have a pretty dry sense of humor.  The comedians were funny and I could have done another show if we had time. Frank  delivered a good show and also judged the Dancing with the Stars competition.
